Terms of Use
Effective 30 August 2026
Tastellar is made by UEI Intelligent Labs LLC (“we”, “us”). These terms cover the Tastellar mobile app and this website. By using either, you agree to them.
They are written to be read. Where a term describes something the app does, it describes what the app actually does today — not what we might prefer to reserve the right to do.
An account is optional
Capturing stars, importing your history and browsing the world sky all work without an account. Signing in adds one thing: the social constellation — a handle, mutual links with other people, and the crossings those produce. You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live.
Links between people are mutual and severable. Either side can sever one at any time, which removes every crossing between you immediately.
What you write stays yours
You own your stars, your photographs and your journal. We claim no ownership of them and we do not use them to advertise, and we take only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your content, sync it between your own devices, and show it to the specific people you have chosen to share it with.
Your journal is treated differently from everything else. It is structurally excluded from every share, link and public surface, and it leaves your device in one situation only — when you ask for a writing assist. The Privacy Policy describes that exception in full, and it is part of these terms.
Tastellar Pro
Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, offered monthly and annually. It adds Taste DNA, Taste Match, palate suggestions, unlimited writing assists and unmetered enrichment; the free tier includes 15 AI enrichments a day.
- The store sells it, not us. Pro is bought through the App Store or Google Play. Payment is taken by the store in the currency of your store account, at the moment you confirm the purchase.
- The price is the one shown at purchase. Each store sets prices from its own list of price points and applies its own tax and currency handling, so the figure on the purchase screen is the one that is true for you. We do not quote a price here that might be wrong in your country.
- It renews automatically. The store charges the renewal within the 24 hours before each period ends, at the same price, unless you turn renewal off at least 24 hours before that.
- Cancelling is done in the store. There is no cancel button inside the app, because the app is not what takes the money — use your store subscription settings. You keep Pro until the period you have already paid for is over.
- Refunds are the store’s. Apple and Google handle refunds under their own policies. We cannot issue one for a purchase we did not process, though you are welcome to write to us and we will tell you where to ask.
- Price changes. If we change the price of a subscription, the store will ask for your consent before charging the new one, and you can decline by cancelling.
If Pro ends
Nothing you captured is taken away. Your stars, places and photographs stay, and the local copy of your journal on your device is untouched — it was never the subscription’s to hold.
The one thing that does expire is the encrypted cloud copy of your journals, which is a Pro backup. It is removed 60 days after your Pro period ends. That window exists so that changing phones, or lapsing by accident, does not cost you your writing — but it is a real deadline, and after it the cloud copy is gone. Export your data before then if you are unsure.
Deleting things
A deleted star is recoverable for 30 days, then permanently removed. Deleting it permanently from Recently Deleted skips that window deliberately.
Deleting your account is immediate and total, and can be done in the app or from tastellar.com/delete. It is not reversible and there is no recovery window.
Using it decently
Do not upload content you have no right to share, impersonate someone, attempt to reach another person’s private stars, or attack the service or the people on it. We may suspend or close an account that does. Where the reason is not a legal obligation or an active abuse investigation, we will tell you why.
Objectionable content and abusive users
There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Tastellar has a public layer — stars people choose to share with strangers — and everything in it is held to that rule.
The reasons you can report a star are a fixed list, and they are the same six the app shows:
- Illegal content
- Sexual content
- Violence or gore
- Hate or harassment
- Spam or a scam
- Something else
Reporting. Every star that is not yours carries a Report action, with room for a note of up to 500 characters. A report is confidential: the person you report is never shown what you wrote, or that it was you. If you cannot reach the app, write to [email protected] — see the support page for what to include.
Blocking. You can block anyone from the same place. A block is mutual, so neither of you sees the other afterwards, and it is silent — the other person is not told. It does not sever your link and it destroys nothing; you can lift it in the app under Your data.
What we do about it. We review reported content within 24 hours and remove anything that breaks these terms. An account that posts objectionable content, or that harasses other people, may be suspended or closed — and we may do that on a first offence where the content warrants it.
The service will change
Features will be added, altered and sometimes withdrawn. If we remove something a paid subscription materially depends on, we will say so in advance rather than let you discover it. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free service.
Warranties and liability
The app is provided as it is, without warranties beyond those the law gives you and does not let us exclude. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Otherwise, and to the extent the law allows, our total liability arising from these terms is limited to what you paid us for Tastellar in the 12 months before the claim. Tastellar is a record of meals; it is not a backup service, and you should keep your own copies of anything you cannot bear to lose. The export exists for that.
Apple and Google
This agreement is between you and us, not with Apple or Google. They are not responsible for the app or its content, and they have no obligation to furnish support for it. Where you obtained the app from Apple, Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [STATE / JURISDICTION — to be completed], without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts there have exclusive jurisdiction. Nothing in this paragraph removes a consumer-protection right you have where you live.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms we will update the effective date above. If a change materially affects what you are agreeing to, we will tell you in the app or by email rather than relying on you to re-read this page.
